Culture
The culture of theLake District is deeply shaped by its stunning natural landscape, which has inspired writers, artists, and conservation movements for centuries. The region's vibrant cultural life is an exceptional fusion of literary heritage, visual arts, farming traditions, and local events.

Lakes
In the Lake District, there are 16 major lakes, though confusingly only one is officially called a "lake"— Bassenthwaite Lake. The others are known as "meres" (larger lakes that are wide and shallow) or "waters" (often deep, narrow lakes). The lake closest to the School House is Ullswater.

Paddleboarding
We offer guided paddleboarding tours, and equipment hire on the lake of Ullswater in the Lake District. For safety, we recommend you always wear a buoyancy aid and leash, carry a phone in a dry bag, and check weather conditions, especially wind, before you go.

Mountains
The Lake District contains England's highest mountains, known as "fells," offering a wide range of hikes for all ability levels. The highest and most famous include: Scafell Pike and Helvellyn, while smaller, more accessible fells like Catbells and the Old Man of Coniston are also popular
